Business Banners 101: What Banners Should Say

When marketing your business and what your business does, a company owner must make several considerations as to what information they will provide to consumers about the product and the product base.

First, a business owner must consider the market, who the competitors are, what product line he/she is selling, and what information the consumer will use to determine whether to purchase from this business, or to purchase from one of the competitors. In making a business banner, using vinyl letters or window letters are probably the most popular forms used. Both of these choices allow the business owner to display the business name on the store front window, which will allow consumers to see the business name, and what the business does. Boat letters are also used on store fronts to display the business name.

The business banner should indicate a few pieces of information to consumers in the market. The banner should include: the business name, what the business does (or sells, or what services it offers), the businesses phone number (and email if one is available), and whatever other relevant information the business owner believes will bring customers in the door. The owner should use lettering that will appeal to the eye; consider using: bright or bold colors, an easy to read font, and using a letter size that consumers will be able to see from a distance.

When creating a display or store front sign on the business’s window the business owner should give the consumer just enough information to draw them in. Putting too much information up might draw away some consumers, and putting up too little information may deter customers from wanting to come to the store (if they don’t know what you are selling, they might wish to shop somewhere else).

Overall, a business owner should have the ultimate goal of drawing customers to come to his store, and not the competition. Therefore, the owner must find a way of conveying his product or service, and make it appealing to the general public, and to the average consumer. The information should be cohesive, easy to understand, and it should appeal to the masses. When in doubt, if you are the owner, ask yourself, what would draw my attention to this store over my competitor?
